Editors are not your enemies…

Some people don’t submit their writing because they fear rejection, especially form rejections that are impersonal and meaningless to the writer. Although rejection is part of the “business” of writing, it can actually be a wonderful way for writers and editors to communicate. For instance, Steve McDermott, in his rejection of a flash piece I sent to Storyglossia, actually suggested another publication that might be open to the piece. It is this type of thoughtfulness that makes me look forward to those emails from editors, even if they say no.
