Poetry x 12: February

Read a Book Recommended on a Blog: February’s Poetry x 12 Challenge

Lisa Cicarello’s At Night, The Dead (Blood Pudding Press)

“a long blink is a scream

a longer blink is sleep.

All night a scream.”

These lines and their perfect logic stayed with me more than anything else in this chapbook, which was reviewed on ReadWritePoem’s Virtual Book Tour.  So, in response, here are some little analogies of my own:

a curse is a nibble

an insult is a bite

All day gnawed to pieces

*

a lie is a maggot

denial – fresh meat

the house soon swarming with flies

*

each breath is a dream

each sigh a resignation

our lungs factories of hope and loss
