Day 6: An Ode to April

A few days ago, Dana Guthrie Martin posted a prompt about writing an ode to April. Since spring is not my favorite season, I decided to think about what other poets have had to say on the subject and just have a little fun with it.

Odes to April

To Hughes, a rain singer

playing a sleep-song

kissing your face.

Greeting cards in pastel

hues and hollow bunny

bodies. Babies in lace.

To Goethe, a truthful

loving bosom. A slow

return to the sun’s embrace.

First fingers of green

poking through the dirt.

The thud of spikes on first base.

To Elliot, the cruellest

month. To Emily,

an absent place.
